If you have a lower budget, I would start looking in the used department since Chromebooks aren't the greatest, they can't handle simple games I played in class during things like free time or my free hour, if they can barely handle simple PvP games, then they would probably crash with things like DSS or ASICAP. Maybe you could use the Mac to control the entire rig while you use a different laptop for post processing, although it would be a bit of a hassle. This works well for me, but for AP, this might work well since it has all the computer jacks you would need for AP: I use my gaming laptop for ASICAP and other post processing, it works well considering there other high demand games on this (War Thunder, EVE, Star borne). I would recommend something like ACER if you only plan on using this computer for AP.

More than likely, you're going to want a computer with Windows on it, a lot more AP software is supported through windows than Apple.

#Cloudmakers astroimager how to

Thanks for your help in figuring how to get a single AP computer setup going!

If I could do (3) it would be ideal, still not the cheapest since my Mac will probably need a new SSD or something (it's a 1TB SSD though I could reduce that perhaps now) and a Windows license (but perhaps my old Windows Educational Edition key will work). So I'm just wondering for a fast and efficient way to directly use my cameras with TSX as a one stop solution without too much dicking around. Given that there is a lot more software for AP under Windows perhaps I should just do (3) or (4).

I have very little experience with Windows so any recommendations for a specific machine (Dell?) would be nice. Buy a new Windows only laptop that is not that expensive but yet fast and I can load up all of TSX, SharpCap, etc.

In other words, is the problem with the QHY that used to be present only with the Mac OS X or is there any kind of a hardware issue as well? If I go with Windows, do I need to use ASCOM or does the X2 driver in Windows work well? (I found ASCOM cumbersome too but perhaps I just didn't do enough with it and it really slowed down my Windows system so I deleted it but it was on a very old laptop.)Ĥ. Not sure if that would that work out well.

Windows on a MacBook Pro as I mention above. Does anyone have any experience running a QHY163M or a QHY247C on a Mac with OSX or Linux and with TSX? If I could make it work with Linux I'd be okay too.ģ. If QHY cameras won't work with TSX on MacOS (i.e., the X2 driver issue which used to be present and I did a search but didn't find anything definitive and I'm asking for advice on which direction to go) then would it make a difference under Linux? I don?t see how it could but perhaps it does. Maybe that was a mistake-and I'm not a purist about it, just a preference-but it's too late and I have several thousand dollars worth of cameras from QHY now.Ģ. (I went with QHY since I prefer to buy Taiwan-made products instead of from China. Especially now that TSX has live stacking. If I could get my QHY cameras and EFW (which is a ZWO mini-EFW) to work via TSX on the Mac I'd be all set and could capture only with TSX thus eliminating the need for SharpCap. I was wondering which of these options you experts may have a view on which would work best for me, not only with my current equipment but also keeping in mind future needs that may arise (i.e., most AP software works on Windows for instance):ġ. I do have an older Mac that is broken right now but I was going to get it fixed and I was wondering if I should do a dual boot with Windows on it and use that instead of buying a new Windows machine. Today my Windows machine was a bit laggy and I'm always concerned it will die (it's a six year old small laptop and I've already had to re-install Windows on it once). I largely use QHY products for cameras - mainly QHY163M and QHY247C cameras for capturing. Right now I use a Windows machine for capturing (using SharpCap) and a Mac with MacOS with TSX for driving my MyT. I really would like to have everything be done on a Macbook of which I have a few that are loaded. I'm writing because I am trying to figure out if I can do a one-stop solution to the way I do AP in terms of the computing device. I'm picking up right where I left off with sh2-132 (I posted some half done images last fall, now adding more data). I posted earlier about being busy with COVID-19 and we have that under some control and I've lubricated my MyT and today it is taking spot-on 5 minute unguided captures with my FC100DF - except for the clouds, it's going well. This is my first AP-related post this year I believe. Hello all, I've missed you all a LOT! I hope everyone is doing well.
